Whether you are building yourself up for a possible zombie apocalypse or just like to psyche yourself out, zombie apocalypse movies always help you prepare for the worst, if it were even to come. These tv shows are either dark with a taste of comedy or comedic with a taste for blood. One of the animes even center around mental disorders with the main character having PTSD and Psychosis (School-Live).
Due to zombie apocalypses being such a popular topic for movies and tv shows, below are some ranged apocalyptic scenarios from ordinary to the-world-doesn’t-even-know-its-happening.
High School of the Dead
Genre: Horror, Supernatural, Action Episodes: 12 Time: 20 mins
Your typical zombie apocalypse scenario. The surviving group of high school students plus the school nurse band together to try and survive the “Outbreak”. As they leave their school which is no longer safe due to the other students being turned into “them” as they are referred to, they travel to each of their homes and throughout the town to look for survivors and supplies. They end up picking up a little girl and a dog on their way to a possible ‘safe zone’. Not only do they have to be wary of the zombies, but corrupted people are picking fights due to societal collapse. This makes everyone including the main protagonists group question their moral codes.
Side note: It is highly sexualized, not really PG-13 but not rated R.
School-Live
Genre: horror, psychological, slice of life, thriller Episode: 12 Time:20 mins
Don’t be fooled by the start of the anime you are only seeing a realistic fantasy through the eyes of one of the main protagonists, Yuki Takeya. In reality, there is a zombie outbreak and her and her friends from the “stay at school” club are the only ones remaining in the area. Kurumi, Yuri, and Miki created this club in order to prevent Yuki from being devoured by attempting to go home. Follow these girls in their attempt to stay alive and nurture Yuki into bringing herself back to reality where the teachers and classmates that she sees, aren’t really there.
Tokyo Ghoul
Genre: Dark fantasy, horror, thriller Episodes: 48 Time: 20 mins
Imagine a zombie apocalypse but nobody knows about it or is aware that it is happening. Ghouls, human looking creatures that thrive on human flesh, live their lives in secret by hiding their true identities from regular humans. It would be compared to a dark version of the wizard world of Harry Potter. Ken Kaneki, a college student, goes out for a date but gets his world turned upside down when he is almost killed by her but only to be told that he is no longer human but half-ghoul. This transformation happened when some of his organs were replaced by his flesh-eating date’s. Due to now living a completely different life, he is roughly taught by other ghouls on how to act and live out a “normal” life.
And there we have it, three zombie-type tv shows that will get your heat pumping.
Now turn off those lights and grab your snuggie cause your gonna need something to hold during this rollercoaster ride of adrenaline.
